The NordPlus Horizontal project “Financial Literacy as a Pathway to Equal Opportunities“ aimed to offer an efficient tool for teachers and educators for teaching this item in a more interesting and attractive way involving learners more into the learning process. Financial literacy is not taught sufficiently at school and even if it is in the programme, students find it uninteresting and too moralizing. Nowadays investing is quite popular among more educated and higher income families in our region but all our countries have also families where poverty is causing poverty because of low self-esteem and poor knowledge in financial literacy. Young people know theoretically quite a lot about this item, but their behaviour is different: they do not save, waste their money and do not think about financial security in future. It means that they need to be more involved in their learning process to change their attitudes and behaviour and it is not enough to give them only new knowledge. For this our consortium searched and developed active learning simulations, exercises, discussion topics and compiled them into a Financial Literacy Handbook meant for school teachers but also for adult trainers who train unemployed people or other persons who have got into trouble with their finances. The handbook includes materials for lower and upper secondary level and adults, but some of them can be also used for younger kids. This result was achieved by peer-to-peer teaching and learning: all participants trained others in the games they had found or developed, and we also created a lot of new materials that were analysed by other partners.
